That’s right. I’m still as picky as I was when I was a child. I guess you don’t grow out of sensory sensitivities.
I am a Nana, when I was a mum I couldn’t force my kids to eat healthy and as a Nana I can’t, in good conscience force my grandchildren to eat healthy. They actually eat better than me anyway!
I’ve always had a problem with fruit as it cannot be trusted to be tasty and the right texture. Fruit is unreliable. I like iceberg lettuce, beetroot and cucumber. I hate most vegetables. As a child I only ate potatoes and swede, but at 30 I tried broccoli and I liked it!
My nemesis is the Brussels sprout! My parents used to try to make me eat them 🤢🤮 I spent hours sat at the dining table with cold food in front of me.
I still have the same tastes now.
Sometimes it’s the texture, e.g. peas and the like with their horrid little shells.
Sometimes it really is the taste, e.g. Brussel sprouts.
I always hated meat. Chewing and chewing trying to swallow, but never quite able. I tolerated chicken as it was softer and didn’t taste of much.
As an adult I became vegan for a few years, but my limited likes made it so hard to eat, especially on the occasions we eat out. Now I’m vegetarian, so I can eat cheese.
I have a very sensitive palate. My daughter once gave me a can of soda called Tizer. I used to love it. This one tasted like carrot. My daughter laughed at me, but I read the ingredients and yes it contained carrot.
I eat to live…
On the other hand, I love sugar. I eat too many sweet things, but I love sweets and cakes.
I’d much rather be in a sweet shop than a restaurant.
I sometimes wonder if it was pudding that stopped me from starving as a child. 😳
